I know some mothers who would rather suffer pain themselves than see their child suffer.
But on the whole -- almost no one would be will to give up everything to alleviate the pain and suffering of anyone outside the immediate family.
In today's world how many people do you think would be willing to give up everything just to experience the pain and suffering of others?
This is pertaining to my Religions of the World class-relating to Buddha.

I beg to differ.... there are many people who give up time and money to help others. I have an 18 year old neighbor who is working in the slums of Philidelphia for this year. She had the choice of that or a college scholarship. One of the unique character traits of Americans is that they know how to "neighbor". Otherwise we wouldn't have gotten across those mountains and rivers on the way west.
IT depends on what kind of pain and suffering, I think.
