In three to five sentences, compare the process of digesting food in an amoeba (unicellular) to those in a mouse (multicellular). write like a 6th grader.

1 answer

Amoebas and mice digest food in different ways because they are made of different kinds of cells. An amoeba is unicellular, so it uses a process called phagocytosis, where it surrounds food with its cell membrane and pulls it inside to make food vacuoles. This happens all inside one tiny cell! On the other hand, mice are multicellular, and they have a mouth to chew their food and a stomach to break it down with acids and enzymes. Then, the nutrients go into their bloodstream, helping all the different cells in their body. So, amoebas eat food as one cell, while mice use a whole system made of many cells!
