In the lessons, you tried out some of the process for setting up a brochure for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Now, your advisor would like you to create a flier for an FBLA recruitment event.

The school is hoping that a catchy flier will draw attention to the event and, hopefully, interest in the program. So be creative!

Step 1: Create a Document
This activity will provide you with an opportunity to use online word processing technology to create, edit, and share documents. You will also use the hardware and software needed to produce documents suitable for different computer applications.

To get started, create a new document to advertise this special event. You may use a starter template such as the Events Brochure or Party Invitation templates as a base for your flier, but be sure to customize the look and feel to one that would be appropriate for an FBLA chapter.

Note: If you are unfamiliar with FBLA, do some online research on the organization. By looking at its website, you can get a sense of who the members are, what the organization does, and how it designs material to recruit more students. All of these details will help you!

Step 2: Create a Catchy Title
Change the default text and title to match that of the FBLA event. Feel free to enter fictional dates, locations, and times. Once you have the information written in, try inserting a few photos to make things look more interesting.

Step 3: Focus on Aesthetics
Remember to use the Home tab in the ribbon to change font styles, sizes, alignment, and details such as bolding and font colors. These adjustments can make all the difference when it comes to creating a catchy flier.

Have fun, but remember that the flier is meant to represent business professionals. Make design choices that will give the brochure a professional vibe.

Step 4: Testing the Tools
Use the Zoom tool to get a bird’s eye view of the entire document. You may need to reduce the zoom amount to 50 percent or less to view the entire flier. Take a screenshot of this step.

Next, use the Split button to split your document view in two. Take a screenshot of this step to show you were able to use the tool appropriately. This allows you to edit and reference two areas of the same document.

Next, use the Review tab to restrict editing to your flier. This will prepare your document for review by a peer.

Design Aesthetics:

  • Font Styles: Use a bold sans-serif font for the title and headings (e.g., Arial or Helvetica), and a clean serif font for body text (e.g., Times New Roman).
  • Font Sizes: Title - 36 pt; Headings - 24 pt; Body - 12 pt.
  • Colors: Incorporate FBLA colors like blue and gold for highlights and borders.

Screenshots:

  • Zoom View: Capture a screenshot showing the document zoomed out to 50%, allowing a view of the entire flier.

  • Split View: Capture a screenshot showing the document in split view, making it easy to edit one section while referencing another.

Restrict Editing:

  • Go to the Review tab and select the option to restrict editing for the flier, preparing it for peer review.

Feel free to tweak the flier content further, adjust the design elements, and ensure it accurately represents your FBLA chapter!
