i also not get ending which be The old lady was waiting for us on the path. He walked straight toward her voice. I felt the pinch of her words and fell behind. The man walked straight ahead and didn't look back.

The old man realizes that it's too late to make changes in his life. He turns his back on his son and granddaughter who might be ready to love him and walks toward his wife who does not love him.
