first one: wouldn't thorns discourage herb eating animals?

second one: A varacious?? new predator? That is certainly a new predator. I bet you meant Voracious

I agree with your answer as it is the best answer. The question in my mind is the word "rapidly". Few things occur rapidaly in nature.
