Identify the unknown particles X and X' in the following nuclear reactions. (In parts (a) and (b), enter only the missing product or reactant.) A) X + 4over2 HE -> 24over12 Mg+1over0 n B) 235over92U+1over0 n -> 90over38Sr+X+2and 1over0 n

3 answers

1) 21 over 10 Ne - Neon
2)144 over 54 Xe - Xenon
You have not written any reaction with an X' term.

For the missing particle, the total mass (superscripts, left) must be the same on both sides of the arrow. The total charge (subscripts, right) must also be the same.

21X10 + 4He2 -> 24Mg12 + 1n0

The 21X10 particle is 21Ne10, which is Neon-10, a stable isotope.

Your second reaction (B) is a nuclear fission process. I do not understand why you wrote "2and" on the right side. It makes no sense. There are probably 2 neutrons (1n0) among
the fission products. One such process is
235H92 + 1n0 -> 94Sr38 + 140Xe54 + 2 1n0
There are other fission fragment possibilities. Yours has strontium-90 as a fission fragment
Thankyouuuu So Much Elena you are by far the greatest person who ever lived <3 and u too drwls !
