I am familiar with this novel. You are being asked to identify a conflict (disagreement, argument, differing points of view) between Philip and Timothy. How did either or both of them change or learn from that conflict? And how does that event (or continuing conflict) affect the story, and help make the point of the story? That third step means you must see some point to the story of the blind white boy and his African-descent (black)) companion. How does their relationship start out and how does it end? What happens in between the beginning and the end? Does Philip change in any way? How so, and why? To explain what you understand about the characters and the conflict(s) they face, use examples from the text of the novel.
I think you have to actually read the book to find out how to answer this question, which I suspect you have not done, based on your two questions.
