As far as the impact on the world, almost anything you can think of has a connection to the automobile now. Imagine building skyscrapers if we didn't have a lot of the construction equipment we do now.

Imagine trying to date your boyfriend if you guys didn't have cars and had to ride horses to meet each other.

There aren't only positive effects, but negative ones too. I doubt there were thousands of deaths from horse accidents every year. And horses definitely did not create the smog we see today.
