I need short story ideas. I have to write a short story for my Creative Writing class, but every idea I've brainstormed has turned out awful.

I wanted to write a tear-jerker or something emotional, but I am not certain anymore. Thus, I am open to suggestions.

One thing that has worked well for me is to think of something you really wanted -- I mean, REALLY wanted! -- and then hated it when you got it. What did you want? Why? How did you think you'd get it? How DID you get it? Why was it not what you expected? What were the results?

You can write this from first person (as if you're telling the story yourself) or from third person.

You can make it all up or you can write about something that happened when you got what you wanted. No one else will know if it's fact or fiction unless you tell them!
There are so many things that can bring a tear to one's eye. Instead of trying to think of something totally new or "original", try a variation on a theme that moves you. I could contend there are no "new" ideas, but only variations on ideas that have been around for a long time. What kind of story would touch your heart? A child separated from his/her family? A child reunited with family after a disaster? Only you know what would be a good story for you to write. Just make sure it's one you really believe in.
