I need help with completing an equation. It is a skeletal formula that includes HOOC, HO, Cl and then MgO is added to it. I am not sure how to even begin this equation but it is unlike the previous balancing that we have done.

Try writing the formula out as a line formula;i.e., ClCH2CH3COOH
Write, the skeletal structure for that exists in the question (a sort of hexagonal structure with different lines within to indicate it) but I am not sure what it wants when MgO is added to it on the other side of the "-->"
OK. You have a benzene ring. If it has only one attachment, it is C6H5 then you add the attachment. If it has the OH AND COOH attached to the right it is C6H4(Cl)COOH, etc. For example, C6H5COOH is benzoic acid.
