I need help. This is an example problem, but i am having trouble finding the answer to all problems like this. I came up with 50 something as my answer. That is NOT an option. Please help!!!

this is the example problem.
If a pair of jeans costs 39.50 dollars, then you add 5% sales cost, how much do they cost now???

A) 37.95 (Not this one, the price went down)
B)40.95 (It may be this one, but i am stiking with c for no. But, if it is wrong, i know the answer is this one. :) Thank you!!!!)
C) 41.48 (Is it this one? This is my answer.)
D) 1.98 ( Not this one, the price went WAY down!)

How didi you find the amount of tax though?
distributive property of multiplication

price = x
tax = 0.05 x which is 5%/100 of x

1 x + .05 x = (1+.05) x = 1.05 x
