A theme of a story or play can be thought of as the author's "secret message" he/she wants the readers to get, to understand.

What do you think a major theme of the story is?
this is wht i have so far :(
In the short story “The large Ant” by Howard Fast, Morgan kills an ant because his mind is set to act violently if he sees something unusual. It is human nature to be terrified and react without thinking about their action when something that is 10 times bigger than their normal size comes at front of them.
Concentrate on this:

It is human nature to be terrified and react without thinking about their action ...

While you want the thesis statement to fit the theme or other ideas in the story, you don't want it to directly refer to the story itself.

Your thesis statement must include factual information plus your position/opinion/stance. Without your position on the topic, it isn't a true thesis statement. So think of this sentence as the angle you want to take on the topic and what you intend to prove by the end of your paper. (If your statement is simply factual, then there's nothing to prove!)

This is one of the very best places I've seen online to help students write good thesis statements. It shows you sentences that aren't thesis statements and how to turn each one into real thesis statements.

Re-post when you think you have a thesis statement drafted which includes both a factual part and an opinion/position part.
