1) From the ship Robinson takes paper, ink and a pen, which he uses to write a diary necessary for Robinson to mantain an ideal contact with his motherland.
2) Robinson has many advantages over Friday: a technical advantage since Robinson has weapons and more sophisticated utensils, a linguistic advantage, since Robinson teaches Friday enough English to undertand his language and, finally, a cultural advantage. Actually, Robinson gives him a new name which recalls the Indian debt to the white man.(correction: which should remind Friday of his debt to Robinson).
