I have to write an expository essay on Phoebe Winterbottom, from Walk Two Moons, analyzing her character. This is what I have:

Question

Pheobe Winterbottom is a nervous girl who receives mysterious messages, meets a “lunatic”, and whose mother goes away in the novel Walk Two Moons. Phoebe is both nervous and careless: she gets angry at her mother’s affection, she refuses to eat food at a friend's house, and she suspects the people around her are sinister and dangerous beings.
Mrs.Winterbottom, Pheobe’s mother, is a loving and gentle woman who can not shake off a deep sense of shortcoming next to her devoted husband. Mrs.Winterbottom doesn’t like how her family ignores her, especially Pheobe, so one day she disappears, leaving only a small explanation that is of no help. Phoebe feels certain she has been kidnapped and begins an obsessive investigation for clues. After she gathers some information and clues, Phoebe rushes over to the police office to offer them the meager evidence her and Sal have collected. At the police station, Sal and Pheobe see a picture of the boy they have been calling the lunatic; he has visited the Winterbottom house before, asking for Pheobe’s mom. The two girls find out what college he goes to and go there to see him but on campus, they find the lunatic and Mrs. Winterbottom sitting on a bench, holding hands. Pheobe is shocked and goes away.

Mrs. Winterbottom returns home a few days later and explains to her family that the lunatic is actually her illicit son, about whom she couldn’t tell her family out of fear. The Winterbottoms are shaken, but ready to listen to Mrs. Winterbottom. At the end of the story, Phoebe is shocked by the news Mrs.Winterbottom brings, but despite her first horror, tries to work harder to understand and accept her mother for who she really is.
