I have to do this lab where I titrate Na2CO3 with HCl dilute solution
but i had to add Methyl orange indicator to the solution and im not sure what the endpoint is supposed to be colored, is it supposed to be orange or pink?? im confused and just how orange is it supposed to be? I got this peach color but im not sure if that's okay for the endpoint color
My experience with this indicator is that it changes from yellow in basic solution to pink in acid solution. The color I look for at the end point is a "salmon" color; i.e., not pink, not yellow, but about half-way between. When I was a student and in doubt if what I saw was the end point or not, I read the buret, then added another drop to see it it made a difference, and continue until reading an adding another drop of the titrant was obviously past the end point. I used up a lot of solution trying to "see" the end point. Later, as a teacher, the students would swear they saw nothing when in fact I was at the end point. So it helps to have experience. Look at the color on the basic side, look at the color on the acid, then try to get between them. It helps to have a solution on the acid side and a solution on the basic side on hand so they can be compared with the solution being titrated and this is especially true when we don't have experience with the indicator. Later you will see the end point instantly and not need the comparison flasks. Good luck.
thanks very much for the advice, i shall see on monday when i continue my lab
