3x/4+6=-12

3x/4+6-6 = -12-6

When this is reduced to a single term on each side of the equal sign, multiply by the reciprocal of the coefficient of the term containing the unknown, namely the reciprocal of 3/4.
3x/4 *4/3 = -18 * 4/3
x = -18*4/3
= -24
