I have a linear equation problem I am trying to solve that has fractions in it -

(x - 2)/5 - (x - 4)/2 = 2

To solve, I first find the lcd which is 10, then multiply everything by 10, so:
10(x - 2)/5 - 10(x - 4)/2 = 2 * 10

This comes out to be:
2(x - 2) - 5(x - 4) = 20
2x - 4 - 5x + 20 = 20
-3x + 16 = 20
-3x = 4
x = -4/3

My question is: and what I am required to do --
How do I provide a check of this? I know I have to plug the answer into the original problem, but I don't know how to solve it.

(-4/3 -2)/5 - (-4/3 - 4)/2 = 2

Thank you.
How do

1 answer

(-4/3 - 6/3)/5 - (-4/3 - 12/3)/2 = 2

(-10/3)/5 - (-16/3)/2 = 2

-2/3 - -8/3 = 2

6/3 = 2
