Eric....First, lots of Americans have "accents" that are totally different depending on what part of the country they live in. For instance, I had a very strong Texas accent that I worked years to get rid of because I was teaching drama. I thought my accent would be of no help if my students copied me. Now, I got rid of it ( mostly) by listening to tapes and then mimicking the tape and listening to my mistakes. Lots of practice.
However, were I you, unless you have a strong accent that makes it hard for others to understand you. Just being aware of what you want to change and practicing will help you change it.
I am in USA for last 14 years almost but still have an accent. I tried hard to get rid of my accent and speek as good as one american born could, but I could do it. Can anyone recommend me anything helpful to correct my accent?
