specifically this is qualitative chem. The two compounds are metal halides and the common condition which the test is proceeded is in acidic condition. The most suitable reagent for that is dil nitric acid.
The reagent to use is HNO3 but that doesn't dissolve either. AgCl is soluble in NH3 whereas AgI is almost insoluble.
