How many square tiles each of side 8cm are needed to tile a floor 22m 40cm long by 12m 80cm wide?

You have the room width and length, in cm.
Since each tile is 8x8 cm, then the room size measured in tiles, is
(2240/8)(1280/8) = 280x160 = 44800 tiles
Af = L*W = 22.4 * 12.8 = 286.72 m^2. = Area of the floor.

At = L*W = 0.08 * 0.08 = 0.0064 m^2 = Area of each tile.

Af/At = 286.72/0.0064 = 44,800 tiles.
