I figured 8x7x2=112 since this is 8 teams and 7 opponents per team and playing twice am i right?

lets try it manually with four teams, ABCS

AB
AD
AC
BD
BC
CD

So your method doesnt work for four teams.

NOW consider if it were 4*3/2=6 That works. So is the answer now 8*7/2

Hint: one divides by two because AB is the same as BA.
