How do you go about writing an introduction for a research paper? Can it be a quote from the person you are writing about? Can the introduction be only one line?

The best thing is NOT to write the intro until you at least have a rough draft of the entire body of the paper.
This is a really good website to help you step by step through the researching and writing process:

I agree. If the President came to your class, you would not introduce him until you knew why he was there, and what he had to say.
It is the same with a paper or essay. Know what it says, before you introduce it. YOu don't write the introduction, then start writing, it might go somewhere else than your introduction intended.
Know what is in the paper before introducing it.
Great explanation bobpursley and Writeteacher :-)
