A variable is a letter to represent an unknown number. 1. x+3 Since we don't know how much his brother ate, we put a variable for it. It doesn't have to be x, it can be b or t or any other letter. And since it's 3 more, it's adding. So, variable (x) + 3
I think it's meant for 'Nazi' sounding like 'not see'.
