Step by step:
You want the variable "x" on one side.
first: Remove -9 from the right y adding 9 to each side to get:
5x + 11 = 4x
Get the other term with "x" in it by subtracting 5. From both sides. Remember that 5x and 4 x are the same term because the both have x.
11= -1x
Divide both sides by -1 to get x by itself.
-11=x

PS: You don't need to start with the -9. You can start from either side. For example:
you could have subtracted 2 from both sides to get -11.
5x-11=4x
Then keep going
you could have subtracted 2 from both sides to get -11.
5x-11=4x
Then keep going

Don't worry.
Just remember you need to find x. You can't do that with x on both sides, right?
It's in 5x and 4x.
Get x to one side.
Remove 5x from the right. Whatever you do to one side you do to the other.
4x-5x=-1x (do not remove x as it can be any number and is a variable)
Now you have 2= -9-1x
not good. you want x alone on one side.
Remove -9 from both sides by adding 9 to both sides.
11= -1x
x is still not alone, so get rid of the -1. It is currently multiplying x, so you need to divide by -1 on both sides:
11/-1= -11
so x=-11. Good, x is alone.
