Heather and Matthew walk eastward with a speed of 0.98 m/s. If it takes them 34 min to walk to the store, how far have they walked?

If Joe rides south on his bicycle in a straight line for 15 min with an average speed of 12.5 km/h, how far has he ridden?

It takes you 9.5 min to walk with an average velocity of 1.2 m/s to the north from the bus stop to the museum entrance. What is your displacement?

How would I solve these problems?

Ok, their velocity is .98m/s due east. The time required is 34min, so how many seconds are there in 34min? 34min * 60sec/min
Use d=v*t where v=.98m/s and the t you calculated above.

If Joe rides for 15min then that is what part of an hour? 15min*1hr/60min= ?
Now use d=v*t =12.5km/hr * the time you just calculated.

If it takes 9.5min how many seconds is that? 9.5min * 60sec/1min = ?
Now use d=v*t = 12.m/s * the time you calculated.

One of the main lessons with these problems is to make sure that your units match. Hours, minutes and seconds are units of time, but the units must match when doing calculations.
