Give 10 difficult questions based on the manifesto below
Resilience is a choice. It’s choosing to rise above your circumstances, no matter how difficult, and
become the person you’re meant to be.” With those words resonating greatly in my heart, ladies,
consider yourselves greeted. My name is Thato Dlikilili, a very proud house member of House
Kestell and a candidate for RC arts, culture and diversity as well as sports, health and wellness. I
am a very determined individual, with humility, I adapt very easily and with resilience. I am very
passionate about the arts and sports, mostly music, poetry, volleyball and writing, as they give me a
platform to express myself appropriately.
Since joining the house last year, I have proudly dedicated myself to taking part in the leadership
positions that the house gracefully offers. Last year, I became a part of the FCom as FCom prime for
the house, a position that I stepped into, merged with and made my own. It was a great learning
curve for me, as it taught me and untaught me certain habits. I was also a part of several sub-coms
in the house, which assisted a lot with understanding leadership better and the responsibility it
comes with. Currently I am the corridor prime of one of corridors in the house, summer palace.
That, on its own, has armed me with a lot of leadership experience, resilience and how to be a
leader that understands but also knows when to enforce the proper procedures of the house. My reasoning behind running for the portfolio of RC Arts, Culture and Diversity stems from my love
for the house, for the arts and my bulging curiosity to learn more about culture and the substances
that form culture and make us who we are. I believe that everything is art and should be treated as
such, even culture itself. My vision for this portfolio is to create a residence where arts and culture
are deeply integrated into the house, by promoting artistic opportunities, encouraging inclusivity
and diversity and by also creating sustainable arts initiatives. I plan on achieving this by subjecting
myself to learn more about the different arts reachable and the cultures we have in the house and
appreciating them. This all ought to be done by respecting and appreciating the work that the fellow
RCs of this portfolio created.
It would be a great honor for me to be able to fill in footsteps of our current RC, by bringing in more
creativity and innovation but also merging my vision and hers into making this portfolio the most
consistent and progressive portfolio in the house. By doing so, the traditions of the house will be
kept alive for future generations of this house to absorb, fall in love with and practice. There is so
much I would love to say on this, but I strongly believe that actions are more verbal than words.
Now, coming into the Sports, Health and Wellness portfolio. Growing in a township whereby sports
is not greatly appreciated or known has hindered me from learning about the different sports that
there is and their benefits. The first time I played sports and fell in love with it, was in this house. I
remember doubting myself and my ability to comprehend the basic rules of volleyball, because we
tend to fear what we don’t know. I have played in gateway and res league as the captain of
volleyball, and at some point, last year, assisted the netball ladies when they were short of players,
regardless of being a stranger to the sport, my willingness to learn and understand, pushed me to
allow myself to be taught.
This portfolio is more than just sports, but about the willingness to defy the odds and test the deep
capabilities of your body and mind. This does not mean that we should strain the body, but also
learn how to take great care of our bodies, health and surroundings. With this portfolio, I plan on
testing my competency and capacity to open to learning and studying new things, making them
reachable and lovable. Anastashia has set a high standard for this portfolio during her two-year
reign. I have watched her enhance the participation in this house using activities relatable to
everyone and do believe that I plan on taking a lot of tips from her, whilst also initiating my own
strategies that will progress sports, health and wellness in the house.
It would be such a great pleasure for me, for the house to open and warm up their hearts towards
the idea of placing their faith in me to prove myself, and to do some good for the house by voting for
me. The truth is, nobody warns you about how much this house is going to grow to be such a big
part of you once you walk through its doors. Thats the reason why even though I ran last year and
could not make it, I am back stronger and much more ready to lead than I was them. I have a lot to
give and offer to the house, all I need is a chance and the slightest spark of belief from you, to make
Kestell a better house than it was yesterday. I thank you.

Based on the manifesto provided, here are ten difficult questions you could consider:
Resilience and Adaptability: You mention resilience as a choice. Can you provide a specific example from your life where you chose resilience over giving up, and what did you learn from that experience?
Cultural Integration: How do you plan to ensure that the arts and culture initiatives you implement respect and reflect the diverse backgrounds of all house members, and how will you address potential cultural misunderstandings?
Leadership Experience: Reflecting on your past leadership roles, how would you assess your effectiveness, and what specific skills do you bring to the table that differentiate you from other candidates for these portfolios?
Conflict Resolution: In a house setting, disagreements and conflicts are inevitable. How do you plan to handle conflicts among members, especially regarding differing opinions on arts, culture, and sports?
Sustainability Initiatives: You mentioned creating sustainable arts initiatives. What specific projects do you envision implementing, and how will you measure their sustainability and impact on the community?
Inclusivity Challenges: While promoting inclusivity and diversity, how do you intend to balance the interests of long-standing traditions within the house with the need for innovation and change in arts and culture?
Personal Growth through Sports: You spoke about your personal journey with sports and your passion for volleyball. How will you foster a similar growth mindset among house members who may be hesitant or lack experience in sports?
Setting Standards: With the high standards set by the previous RC, how do you plan to both maintain continuity and innovate? Can you outline a few specific strategies you would introduce?
Feedback Mechanisms: How will you gather feedback from house members on your initiatives, and what steps will you take to ensure that their voices are heard and valued in your decision-making processes?
Long-term Vision: Looking beyond your term, how do you envision the legacy of your leadership in the arts, culture, and sports portfolios? What systems will you put in place to ensure ongoing success and engagement in these areas after your tenure?
These questions challenge the candidate to think critically about their manifesto and demonstrate deeper insights into their vision and capabilities as a leader.
