Do the words define an differentiate have the same meaning? Because I have to define and differentiate population and community but when I define it doesn't that show the differences between the two words?

Define and differentiate have different meanings.
After you define each of the words, then you can point out the difference between them. Perhaps you'll need to check your text for specific details.

I am wondering how you defined them. A community has a population, but a population does not have a community. Population is a charactersitic of a community, at least here in Texas.
