Design your own Rube Goldberg Machine. Student will design a Rube Goldberg machine to solve a task they have decided upon using materials they have decided upon.

1 answer

Task: Turn off a light switch

Materials:
- Wooden plank
- Dominoes
- Marbles
- Cardboard tubes
- String
- Pulleys
- Small toy car
- Balloons
- Pins
- Tape
- Light switch

Design:
1. Place the wooden plank against a wall, with the light switch at the top of the plank.
2. Set up a row of dominoes at the bottom of the plank.
3. Place marble at the top of the plank and release it, causing it to roll down and knock over the dominoes.
4. The falling dominoes will push a cardboard tube at the end, releasing a small toy car down a ramp.
5. The toy car will reach the end of the ramp and hit a balloon attached to a pin, popping the balloon.
6. The popping balloon will release a string attached to a pulley system, causing the pulleys to move and pull a lever connected to the light switch.
7. The lever will flip the light switch, turning off the light.

This Rube Goldberg machine uses a series of simple machines and cause and effect actions to accomplish the task of turning off a light switch in a fun and creative way.
