Design your own Rube Goldberg Machine. Student will design a Rube Goldberg machine to solve a task they have decided upon using materials they have decided upon. Close a door

1 answer

Task: Close a door

Materials:
- Dominoes
- Tennis ball
- Hammer
- Pulley system
- String
- Marble
- Small bucket
- Wooden plank
- Toy car
- Ramp
- Tape

Design:
1. The process starts by setting up the dominoes in a line leading to the tennis ball.
2. The tennis ball is placed on a small platform at the end of the domino line.
3. The hammer is positioned at the other end of the domino line, ready to be released.
4. When the first domino is knocked over, it sets off a chain reaction that causes the tennis ball to roll towards the hammer.
5. The hammer is released and swings forward, hitting the tennis ball with enough force to send it flying towards a pulley system.
6. The pulley system is attached to a string that is connected to the door handle. As the tennis ball pulls on the string, it slowly closes the door.
7. Meanwhile, a marble is released from a small bucket suspended above the wooden plank.
8. The marble rolls down the plank and lands in a toy car.
9. The toy car is released down a ramp, hitting a piece of tape that triggers a mechanism to set the pulley system back to its original position.
10. As the door closes, the final step of the Rube Goldberg machine is complete.

By following this design, the Rube Goldberg machine will successfully close the door using the materials provided.
