You should invest in a good Dictionary—and a good Thesaurus as well—to help you write well. But you should also realize, as even Samuel Johnson did when he compiled the first English language dictionary in 1755, that the language was always fluid and evolving, and that no dictionary can ever "fix" the language into something that won't never change.
