I have a few more doubts.

2) Through these similes he conveys the image of a towm like (which looks like) a jungle.
3) There was a black canal and a purple river, which emphasize how pollution blackened the appearance of Coketown.

5)The Victorian code of behaviour was based on strict moral values, the most important of which was a mixture of good manners and hard work.
6) Schools acquired importance to spread Victorian values among the poorer classes.
7) The Romantics laid attention(correction: laid emphasis)on the experience of childhood
8)Victorian values were applicable to all strata of society.
He goes on a voyage of expedition to Africa.
9) He wrote a postcript, in which he said (better: stated) that all the brutes had to be killed.
