Can someone explain how to solve 1 2/3 + 1 1/3 please

3 answers

1 2/3 + 1 1/3
= 5/3 + 4/3 , after getting rid of those useless mixed numbers
= 9/3
= 3

or
notice that the two fractional parts have the same denominator, so
1 2/3 + 1 1/3
= 1 + 1 + 2/3 + 1/3
= 1+1+3/3
= 1+1+1 = 3
@mathhelper Thx sm
So, first you figure out what 1 + 1 is, I'm pretty sure you can figure that out

Now we figure out what 1/3 + 2/3 is, in order to do that we add the top numbers also called the numerators. so, 1 + 2 = 3 now we add back the denominator/ bottom number

1+1=2
2+1=3+denominator
the answer: 3/3 or 1

Hope this makes sense :)
