A text message is sent to five friends. Each of the five friends then forward it to five other friends and each of these people also sends it to five other friends. How many people does the text message reach, not including those who forwarded the message?

I don't understand how it's 5^3. I keep getting 5+5^2+5^3 = 155

if it is not by those who fowarded it that means the last group

5 people had it but they shared it to 5 people each making it 25. Those people do the same making it 125 but don't foward it anymore making it 125 the answer as the last 125 never foward it
