A rocket is fired at 60° to the horizontal with an initial speed of 200 m/s.calculate it time of flight and it range on a horizontal plane

1 answer

Vertical problem first:
initial vertical speed = Vi = 200 sin 60 = 173 m/s up
V = Vi - 9.81 t
h = Vi t - 4.9 t^2
h is zero at start and at finish
0 = Vi t - 4.9 t^2 = t (Vi - 4.9 t)
so
t = Vi/4.9 at finish
now horizontal problem
u = 200 cos 60 = 100 until it crashes so
distance = 100 t = 100 (Vi/4.9)
