There were 325 people at a conference. If each of 30 people brought 3 guests, each of the 20 brought 2 guests and each 40 people brought 1 guest, how many people did not bring any guests?

"each of 30 people brought 3 guests" accounts for 30 + 90 or 120 people
"each of the 20 brought 2 guest" accounts for 20 + 40 or 60 guests
"each of 40 people brought 1 guest" accounts for 40 + 40 = 80 people
total so far: 120+60+80 = 260
leaving 325-260 or 65 guests who came just by themselves.
