from the first equation y = 4 x - 4
use that in the second (substitution)
2 (4x - 4) = 3 x + 17
8 x - 8 = 3 x + 17
5 x = 25
x = 5
now go back for y
y = 4 x - 4
y = 4(5) - 4
y = 20 - 4
y = 16
use that in the second (substitution)
2 (4x - 4) = 3 x + 17
8 x - 8 = 3 x + 17
5 x = 25
x = 5
now go back for y
y = 4 x - 4
y = 4(5) - 4
y = 20 - 4
y = 16
