I'm having trouble with working a problem out and need to see how to solve. The question reads as follow: Mark has 24 baseball cards. He says that 8/24 are pitchers, 5/24 are catchers, and the rest are fielders. What fraction below represents the difference between the number of fielders and catchers?
A. 5/24. B. 6/24. C. 8/24. D. 13/24

Well, first you have to find out how many are fielders. If 8 are pitchers and 5 are catchers, then the rest are fielders. Simply subtract 8 and 5 from 24.
Then you take that number and subtract 5 from it. (Since difference means to subtract. And you're looking for the difference between catchers and fielders.)
In other words, the answer is B. Hopefully you saw how I got that.

    24-(8+5) = 24-13 = 11
11-5=6
where did you get 3?
