None of those is correct.

A direct object receives the action of the verb. It answers who or what after a verb and is never in a prepositional phrase.

It's easiest to find the parts of a sentence if you put parentheses around prepositional phrases.

1. This article gives interesting facts (about libraries)

article gives _________

2. (In the Untied States,) we now have thousands (of libraries.)

I thought 4 was books. Why is it millions
Answered by Ms. Sue
2 and 5 (libraries) are right.

3. is wrong.

The direct object in 4 can't be books because it's in a prepositional phrase.

Why isn't 2 city and 3 not library. Cause it's a prepositional phrase?
