Why are we able to develop the volume formula for cones from the volume formula for pyramids?

The volume of any pyramidal shape is Ah/3 or one third the product of the area of the base times the height.

The base can be circular, square,rectangular, triangular, pentagonal, or any shape.

Whatever the shape of the base, the volume is Ab(h)/3.
