A man is cutting a board that is 6 3/4 ft into pieces that are 8 inches each.He will make as many as 8 inch boards as he can.How much wood will be remaining from the original piece when the man finishes cutting?

Change 6 3/4 feet to inches divide that by 8 inches to get the number of boards.
Or, you can change 8 inches to 8/12 or 2/3 feet and divide 6 3/4 feet by 2/3 feet to get number of boards.

Oops! I misread the question. After you find number of pieces, multiply it by either 8 inches or 2/3 feet. That tells you how much wood was used. Now subtract the amount of wood used from 6 3/4 feet.
