The percentage of sugar in a solution of sugar and water is 9%. If 4 litres of this solution is diluted by adding 500mL of water, what is the percentage of sugar in the new solution?

amount of sugar in the 4 L of 9% solution
= .09(4)
so the percentage in 4+.5 or 4.5
= .09(4)/4/5 = .08 or 8%
= .09(4)
so the percentage in 4+.5 or 4.5
