A well designed rubric indicates levels of outcomes and related scores. I used them in evaluating students Cornell notebooks. Students have access to the rubrik, frankly, they can score themselves before they turn in the work.
Example on my rubric:
Name on cover 1 5
Notebook a three ring binder 1 5
Notebook divided into sections: notes, labs, handouts, reference material, old tests and assignments. 1 3 5
Old tests corrected 1 7
EAch page dated 1 10
Each page divided 1 5
Notes on right side 1 10
Questions on left 1 10
the numbers indicates the range of scores.
