the primeter of a rectangle is 24ft. the length is 2 ft longer than the width. Find the dimensions. Write a system of linear equations and solve the resulting system. Let x be the length and y be the width.

Is the answer for the lenght 16ft
and 8ft for the width?

No. Remember there are four sides to a rectangle. Also 16 is not 2 feet longer than the width.

Please try again.

okay 14ft for length and 10 for the width.
Answered by Ms. Sue
14 - 10 = 4

Your perimeter is 48 feet long.

P = 2L + 2W

24 = 2(W + 2) + 2W

I am getting lost here. I came up with 8 ft for the length and 4 ft for the width. I hope this is right.
Answered by Ms. Sue
But the length is only 2 feet longer than the width.

24 = 2(W + 2) + 2W

24 = 4W + 4

20 = 4W

5 = W

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
5 + 2 = 7
Length = 7
Let's see if that produces a perimeter of 24
5 + 5 + 7 + 7 = 24
