calculate the percentage of water in each of the following hydrates

SrCl2*6H2O

4 answers

(6*molar mass H2O/molar mass SrCl2.6H2O)*100 = ?
is that dot between the compounds multiplication?
No.
CuSO4.5H2O means 1 mol CuSO4 + 5 mol H2O. The molar mass is
Cu + S + 4*O + 5*H2O = about 249.5
If we could put it in the right place on the computer it would be a period in the middle of the line. We can't do that with the computer so we write it as a period on the line. Some write it as CuSO4*5H2O but that DOES look like a multiplication.
