if tiles at a store cost .$20 for a 1"x1" square and $.30 for 1"X2" rectangle what would be the cheapest way to buy tiles to make a tiled square 3 inches on each side.

I tried to construct a 3" square with 1"x2" tiles, but I could not do so without a gap in the 3" tiled square.
However, if you assume using 4 1"x2" tiles:
.30 * 4 = 1.20
.20 * 9 = 1.80
However, if you assume using 4 1"x2" tiles:
.30 * 4 = 1.20
.20 * 9 = 1.80
