First find the common denominator and change the fractions to equivalent fractions.
11 13/15 = 11 52/60
3 7/12 = 3 35/60
Then add.
11 52/60 + 3 35/60 = 14 87/60 = 15 27/60 = 15 9/20
Now you can try the second problem. I'll be glad to check your work.

11 13/15 = 11 52/60
3 7/12 = 3 35/60
Then add.
11 52/60 + 3 35/60 = 14 87/60 = 15 27/60 = 15 9/20
Now you can try the second problem. I'll be glad to check your work.

    Hannah,
For the first problem with the first mixed number, you would multiply 11 and 15 and add 13. So it would be 178/15 because you still use the demominator. Then you mulitply 3 and 12 and add 7. So that would be 43/12.
So the question is 178/15 + 43/12=
Can you solve it from there?
The next one would be 59/4 + 47/8=
Find the common demominators and then solve.

    14 87/60 = 15 27/60
Divide 87 by 60 to get 1 27/60.
Add that to 14 to get 15 27/60
