2. 224 is 25% of what number?

We're looking for a much larger number. Think: one dollar is 25% of 4 dollars

0.25w = 224

w = 224/0.25

w = 896

Answered by Steve
224 is 25% of what number

you are told that 224 is 1/4 of a number. The number must be 4 times as big as 224.

56 is 1/4 of 224
224 is 1/4 of 896

algebraically,

224 = .25 x
224/.25 = x
x = 896

it always helps to write down each step, then check your answer.

you answered the question
"25% of 224 is what?"
not "225 is 25% of what?"

Can you or Steve help me with the others.
Answered by Ms. Sue
Jman -- you first need to show us that you've gone back and really studied your math text. Try these problems again, and explain why you did what you did.
