I was seven years old when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.

Just off the top of my head -- here are a few important facts.

Japanese wanted to disable the American navy so that it would have a free hand in expanding its empire into the Pacific.

The attack was a success for the Japanese.

President Roosevelt called it a "Day that will live in infamy."

The President promptly declared war on Japan -- entering the U.S. into World War II.
