One way you can solve this is by drawing a diagram. For example, a rectangle 16 cm by 12 cm. From that you will get the general idea of what it looks like. Then starting at one corner, which would be 0, make dots every 4 cm. Now for the long side, 16 cm, your should get 5 tulips along the side. Then for the short side, 12 cm, do the same starting at the same point in the corner. You should get 4 tulips for the 12 cm long side. Then multiply 5 and four and you should get 20. Check your answer by finishing the diagram. This is how i figured it out anyways.

Madmistro, your idea with the diagram is great but you will be planting two tulips in the starting position. Therefore, I think that subtract 1 which yields 19 is the better answer. Although it did not say that 2 tulips could not be planted in the same hole.

I think u first have multiply 16 times 12=262
