Asked by 123c:
Debra has 2/3 of a pound of loose green tea leaves. If she wants to keep one-half of the tea at home and the other half at work, what fraction of a pound will she have at work?
1/6, 1/4, 1/3, or 1/2?
I would personally say 1/3, but, could someone explain this thoroughly?

Yes. 1/3 is correct

Ms. Sue, can you please explain why it's 1/3? I also want to know why it's multiplication and not division or subtraction...

Or anyone, please.

It would be 2/3 divided by 2! So turning this into a multiplication equation it would be 2/3 x 1/2 = 2/6 = 1/3!
